Serenity at Kanam Estate
Author: Anothertravelguide.com0 COMMENTS

Serenity is truly the ideal name for this 1920s planters' house in the middle of a rubber plantation; light years away from all the hustle and bustle, midway between the ocean and the mountains - and they even have a resident elephant, Lakshmi, who used to work in a circus and now is available to guests who fancy an elephant ride. There is also a garden where all the possible herbs and spices are grown. The vintage ambience is practically tangible here. If you are lucky enough to be staying at a time when you are the only guest, you do feel as if you actually owned the place. The way it is at all of the Malabar Escapes hotels, the interior is a skilful blend of the traditional and colonial styles and modern design. The maharaja bed is an experience in itself: it is so high that the elegant little bench next to it doesn't seem like a strictly decorative element after all. There are five rooms at the Serenity hotel; the windows are equipped with wood crossbars (and shutters for night time) instead of traditional glass panes. Candlelit dinner is served in the garden.
