Teatriz

This is a real gem for all the fans of Philippe Starck's design, one of his best and emotionally most effective restaurant interiors to date: a true design adventure. Teatriz is housed in the building of the former Beatriz operetta theatre. The best spot for dinner is the Restaurante Escenari room that used to be the theatre spectator hall (ask for a table by the stage). A great place to have a meal in a company of 6-8 people. It is often quite noisy in large dining halls with many tables where conversations tend to be drowned out by the background din; in this case it is quite the opposite: you are sitting in a huge hall and yet feeling as if you were alone with your friends. Perhaps this is not the best food in Madrid; it is still quite decent. A visit to the loo is a must: a classic Starck-style restroom. On the other hand, if you are not interested in dinner, check out the bar in the former stage area. During the day the ground floor café is a good option: no décor to speak of but the tapas are nice. $$
