Opened in 2005, the Pera Museum stands out from a plethora of Beyoğlu museums and cultural centres for its world class collections and exhibitions. Check out the website for what's going on currently, but there are remarkable permanent exhibitions on Anatolian and Oriental art and artefacts. In addition to its function as a private museum in which to display the collection of the wealthy business family who funded the restoration and transformation of a fine old fin-de-siècle building in the Tepebasi part of Beyoğlu, the Pera Museum is also intended to provide the people of Istanbul with a broad range of cultural services as a modern cultural centre located in a vibrant part of the city and equipped with multipurpose exhibition spaces, an auditorium and lobby, and activity spaces for visitors.
