Merci

Merci, recently opened in Paris, can certainly be listed among the most original concept shops of late. Moreover, it is ideally suited to this time when we are encouraged to re-evaluate our shopping habits, among other things. The concept of Merci is a direct embodiment of its name - "thank you!" Unlike your ordinary temple of consumer culture, the new shop promotes socially responsible shopping: all profit after expenses is given to charity, to benefit children in Madagascar. And that is not all - most of the suppliers have waived their own profit percentage, making many things in Merci considerably cheaper than anywhere else in shops. For example, by agreement with several fashion houses (Yves Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney et al), several designs have been created especially for Merci, and their price is some 30-40% lower than in the brands' own stores. Likewise, at the perfume bar on the ground floor your coveted Annick Goutal fragrance, filled into in a plain bottle, will cost 40% less than a new bottle in brand packaging. The scale of the shop itself is something to be reckoned with - the store is located in a historical 18th century building in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, and takes up three floors. On the ground floor there is the Used Book Café and a flower shop. Next up are clothes collections for the entire family as well as interior furnishings and accessories. It is a lifestyle cocktail, where well-known luxury brand names are found right next to the creations of young, promising designers, vintage next to mass fashion, luxury design objects next to utilitarian everyday things. A suitable backdrop for this mix is provided by the shop interior: an industrial space, fitting cabins made of carrier boxes etc. The owners of Merci, Bernard and Marie-France Cohen, are also the founders of the luxury children's fashion brand Bonpoint.
