Nomiya
Palais de Tokyo in Paris, one of the most extravagant contemporary art museums in the world, never ceases to surprise. The mobile hotel - art installation, Hotel Everland, that resided on its rooftop until spring 2009 is replaced by a mobile restaurant Nomiya now. Its name is taken from Japanese and means „a small restaurant". The same way as Everland, the restaurant will adorn the rooftop of the palace just briefly - until July 1, 2010. This art-culinary installation has emerged from the cooperation of Palais de Tokyo and Elektrolux. Laurent Grasso is the author of a 24 ton-glass cube, about the size of a shipping container that houses Nomiya, while its kitchen is run by the local culinary star, Gilles Stassart.
Unlike Hotel Everland that had one room, the restaurant Nomiya has just one table, seating 12 people. The restaurant serves only lunches and dinners, reservations being available on its web site no more than a month ahead (starting from 10.00am). If you book two seats, reckon that you will be seated with 10 other strangers, but it belongs to charm of this place, they say. Aside from that, Nomiya offers tours and cooking classes, and of course a marvelous view of Eifel Tower, with the whole of Paris spreading out at your feet.
