Odysseys, Hotel Metropolis
If you regard yourself as a gourmet and a hedonist, detesting any routineness and prose of life, be sure to jot down Odysseys as one of your destinations of this summer. It's a newly opened restaurant by French star-chef Joël Robuchon at the hotel Metropolis in Monte Carlo. Aside from gastronomic surprises, it features a black and white fresco-style installation designed by Karl Lagerfeld, portraying Ulysses' journey from the Iliad and the Odyssey. 20 x 3 meters in size, it consists of 18 glass panels, featuring a group of muses that are adorned in Grecian togas designed by Lagerfeld himself. As a background of the fresco serves an original photography from Lagerfeld's own archives taken of the Greek coastline in the middle of the 19th century. The mural is lit with a special LED lighting system, which adjusts according to the surrounding natural light. The guests can enjoy their meal by the pool, which adds to the general relaxed and self-indulging atmosphere there. The restaurant offers light and exquisite snacks in daytime while in the evening original Robuchon's canapés are served under live music and soft clinking of cocktail glasses.
