Hotel Skeppsholmen
Opened in 2009, Hotel Skeppsholmen is an urban oasis almost in the very heart of Stockholm. It's sited on Skeppsholmen Island, next to the Museum of Modern Art, in historic buildings that date back to 1699, originally intended to house the Royal Swedish Marines. The hotel surrounds its guests with relaxing rural feel, although the city is just a short distance away, across the bridge. Soothing tranquility and quiet rustle of water is typical there. The hotel has 82 rooms that feature modest, somewhat meditative luxury, with every smallest detail carefully thought out. It's a harmonious fusion of old and new. For the most part, the historic building has been preserved untouched, replacing only some of the original flooring, windows and their closing mechanisms. At the same time, it's been supplemented with countless ultramodern details, mostly in bathrooms, infusing the whole place with contemporary design aesthetics. Hotel Skeppsholmen is a marvelous result of collaboration between interior designers Claesson Koivisto Rune and architects Peter Erséus & Gunhild Skoog Jägbeck, and a meditative ambience of its interiors seems to be inspired by the closeness of the sea. It features soft and misty palette of colors, romantic landscapes outside its windows and a pleasant feel of soft touch design details.
Built in the time of King Charles XII, and known to locals as "The Long Row", it was never used for the soldiers as intended and was neglected until 1710. During the time of plague, it served as a hospital but later was turned into Navy storehouses and apartments for the Navy staff. In 1935 the string of houses became government listed historic buildings.
The hotel features an organic cuisine restaurant, bathrooms, provided with Byredo cosmetics, the latest Swedish fad brand, and a sensation that Hotel Skeppsholmen is just perfect for a romantic weekend. You can leisurely contemplate water reflections or explore the nearby Museum of Modern Art.
