Dean Street Townhouse
Stylish, cosy and yet - not a threat of an instant heart attack to the credit card: a combination not very typical of the London accommodation venues. Little wonder then that Dean Street Townhouse, recently opened in Soho, has already managed to become one of the currently most intriguing accommodations in the city. It is owned by the glamorous Soho House chain, so far best known for its exclusive members-only clubs and equally pompous accommodations: this is actually their first step in the direction of reasonably democratic style and prices to date. The Dean Street Townhouse concept combines hotel and restaurant. The hotel offers 39 rooms featuring a somewhat sentimentally romantic decor - it does feel a bit like visiting with your granny, albeit a very stylish and contemporary one. The hypothetical granny has went to great lengths to ensure that her favourite grandchildren are nice and comfy, providing modern Sony TV sets, equipment for anchoring your iPods and a selection of the latest fashion magazines. There is also plenty of pillows - enough to settle down with your laptop (there is a free wireless internet connection). The smaller rooms, aptly referred to as „tiny rooms", are only 15 square metres in size (rates from GBP 95), and yet prove spacious enough for a reasonably comfortable bed and an en-suite shower. The larger ones (42 square metres) boast decorative luxuries like easel-style mirror, bath in the bedroom, etc. The restaurant walls are adorned, among other things, with works by Tracy Emin and David Bailey. Incidentally, the 18th-century building now housing Dean Street Townhouse used to be home to the Gargoyle Club, frequented by Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud.
